Are you looking for the perfect gift for that blogger or entrepreneur in your life? I get it – my partner doesn’t always know what would be useful to me and my business either. That’s why every year, I give him a list of useful blogging tools that I’d like to have. He uses this list for Mother’s Day, Birthdays, and especially at Christmas (which is truthfully when I get the real nice stuff…ha!)
I surveyed over 50 bloggers of various niches and came up with 12 Insanely Useful Gifts that Bloggers Need categorized by Website Management Essentials, Equipment, Memberships & Vouchers.
Website Management Essentials
There are basics every blogger needs for managing their websites, and yet they are so often overlooked as the perfect gift! These essentials aren’t always incredibly expensive, but are certainly a load off of the blogger’s mind.
1. Website Hosting
An annual subscription to the blogger’s web host of choice on average is anywhere from $25-150 and opens up a lot of doors for bloggers. There are things you should look for when choosing a web host, so be sure to choose the right one. My recommendation is Siteground – great customer service, fast, and reliable.
2. Domain Registration
An easy and quite inexpensive gift option for the blogger in your life. A Domain typically costs less than $15 for the year!
3. Website Design or Theme
This is definitely the gift that keeps on giving. A WordPress theme ranges from $45-100 (I love Hello You Designs), and a custom website ranges from $1,000 to $3,000! But I’m sure your blogger can help you understand the value of a well-designed website… and that you love them very much.
Some bloggers may find more use in certain types of equipment than others. For example, a Food blogger might get better use out of a new camera rather than a graphic design tablet. Keep that in mind when making an equipment purchase, as most tend to be more expensive. Ask and find out what the blogger in your life actually needs.
4. Camera / Lens Kits
The visual is just as important to blogging as the words on the screen. Why not invest in their blog with a DSLR Camera and/or specialized lens kit? Here are a couple of great DSLR choices:
5. Photography Lighting
This one always finds its way onto my list because like a lot of bloggers, I’m not blessed with a ton of natural lighting at my house (or a sleeping schedule that keeps me awake during those glorious, morning hours). Sometimes a little lighting trickery can make all the difference!
A couple of years ago, I bought this rather inexpensive light box. It’s not the best one out there, but what do you want for all of like, $20? It’s a great place to start for newer bloggers. Otherwise, you can check out the excellent selection of photography lighting kits on Amazon with your blogger and let them help choose what they would get the most use out of.
I’d go as far as to say that a strong computer is the backbone of any blogger’s venture. Out of all of the equipment a blogger could possibly need, having a reliable computer whether desktop or laptop is crucial.
When it came time to upgrade, I switched to a laptop computer because I wanted mobility. While I would like to purchase a desktop computer as well in the coming year, I believe I made the right choice as a blogger. It’s easy for me to pack up my laptop and take it with me on trips so that I can still blog and keep in contact with clients with ease – even when I’m not at my desk.
Memberships & Vouchers
There are a many tools out there that keep a blog running… from those responsible for our subscription lists, to managing our social media. Most of them cost a small, monthly fee and get overlooked during gift-giving. Not having to worry about paying for these tools in the coming year would be a load off of everyone’s mind!
7. Adobe Creative Cloud
If your blogger is a Photoshop fan (hey, me too!), chances are, they are paying the $10 per month subscription fee for the latest, most up to date copy of their photo editing software. But there are many other programs that fall under the Adobe brand that a blogger might find useful: Illustrator, inDesign, Lightroom, and Premiere Pro to name a few.
There are different packages and options available, but the most popular is the $80/mo annual subscription which includes all of the Adobe CC apps.
8. Adobe Stock Images
While there are plenty of wonderful websites out there that offer free stock photos, I believe that you get what you pay for. Don’t let the blogger in your life fall trap to using the same images everyone else is using! There’s a much better option out there.
My go-to for beautiful stock images is Adobe Stock. For $30 per month, I am able to sort through millions of high-quality images narrowed down by type, orientation, and even by color so that my images are always on mark with my brand! It’s heaven for any blogger who needs access to stock photography.
It’s important that bloggers schedule their social media as a means to remain active – even when they can’t be present. The best tool I have found for this (which is gaining traction and popularity) is CoSchedule. It’s a web app with a WordPress integration and Chrome extension for a well-rounded scheduling experience. This drag & drop editorial calendar will keep your blogger as organized as I am!
Most bloggers understand the importance of growing an email subscription list, but the best tool (ConvertKit!) has a steep price tag ($30 per month) for those just starting out. Give the gift that I promise will keep on giving. Buy one month of ConvertKit and it will open up a lot of doors for your blogger.
One of my favorite pin scheduling tools for bloggers, BoardBooster helps manage Pinterest accounts by automatically spreading new pins over ideal pinning hours. It’s perfect for testing broken links and looping your boards for maximum pin exposure. Trust me… even if your blogger doesn’t yet know that they need such software, they are going to be grateful for the gift.
BoardBooster is quite the powerful tool considering it’s low price tag. For just $5 per month, BoardBooster will manage 500 pins in whatever way they choose.
Another fantastic (but different) Pinterest management tool, Tailwind has both a free and (even better) premium option for $10 per month. Your blogger will like the ability to schedule out their latest pins with Tailwind’s drag & drop features, but they will love the ability to interact with other pinners, find their tribes, and literally watch their traffic climb using Tailwind’s analytics.
